St Barnabas Cathedral Choir

St Barnabas Cathedral Choir

The Choir of St Barnabas Cathedral showcased their uplifting and inspiring vocal harmonies to our music groups, during a visit to our school in Term 1.

Four groups from the Choir of St Barnabas Cathedral visited The Cathedral School to introduce Melanesian singing to the students. Our choral ensembles comprising Sopranino, Animato, VOCE, and Senior groups – participated in short workshops, and also had the opportunity to sing for the Solomon Island guests.

The Choir was invited to Townsville by the Anglican Diocese of North Queensland and highlighted their visit by providing a soulful performance at St James’ Cathedral during the Saturday service. Thank you to Right Rev Dr Keith Joseph for organising the workshops at The Cathedral School.

Sounds Of Celebration 2023

Sounds Of Celebration 2023

The annual Concert & Music Awards evening was another spectacular visual and auditory event, celebrating the exceptional music program at The Cathedral School. The event commenced with an electrifying all-band medley, featuring Michael Jackson’s ‘Thriller’ seamlessly transitioning into ‘Pompeii’ by Bastille, leaving the audience awestruck by the astounding talents of the music students and the impressive lighting display crafted by the SLAB crew.

MAD Week 2023

MAD Week 2023

The inaugural MAD (Music/Media, Art, Dance/Drama) Week was held at The Cathedral School from 22 – 26 May 2023.

MAD Week was filled with lunchtime activities that had students engaged and creating through Spicks and Specs quizzes, tie-dye workshops, drama activities, and a ‘Just Dance’ session. The school was also visited by a professional artist who spoke to students who are interested in exploring a career in the entertainment and performing industry.

The week culminated in the announcement of the 2024 school production, ‘Legally Blonde’. Students and parents who want to find out more about the audition process for this production are encouraged to go to Groups on eCat, and join the group titled ‘Information – Production 2024’.

This exhibition showcases the most outstanding visual artworks by senior high school students in North Queensland, and all three girls should be commended for their amazing pieces. Thank you to Jenna Dann for your support.

The work will be exhibited at The Drill Hall Studio in North Ward from Oct 9-30th and is free to view.

Eisteddfod Excellence

At the first Junior School assembly for Term 4 we acknowledged the effort and commitment by our students who participated in the 2022 Eisteddfod Program. Head of Junior School Mr. Luke Baills made special mention of the Junior School Percussion Ensemble who achieved the highest score across the entire Eisteddfod with 96/100. Pictured are all of the students in Junior School who participated and/or received awards in this year’s Eisteddfod.

Art Extravaganza

This year’s Art Extravaganza was another huge success with a unique piece on display by each child from the Early Learning Centre through to Year 6. Visitors were provided an opportunity to contribute by creating their own pieces on the ‘sticky note’ wall of art, or the colourful and thoughtful ‘rock art’ collection.
