School Buses
The Cathedral School manages a comprehensive School Bus Service. The service aims to ensure that students are escorted to and from school in a safe and timely manner, collecting and delivering them at a convenient location that is agreed to by both the family and the school.
Vehicles Used
The school has two large buses (33 seaters), two small buses (24 seater), and one minibus (12 seater) providing the regular bus services. All vehicles are well maintained and have all safety equipment, including seat belts for all passengers.
Suburbs Serviced
As far as possible, the runs are tailored to meet the needs of our regular passengers, and include the following list of Townsville suburbs. If demand exists, this list may change.
Alligator Creek, Annandale, Belgian Gardens, Bushland Beach, Condon, Cranbrook, Douglas, Hermit Park, Idalia, Kelso, Kirwan, Magnetic Island Ferry Terminal, Mount Louisa, Nome, North Shore, North Ward, Pallarenda, Riverside Gardens, Upper Ross.
Ayr Service
The Cathedral School Townsville is now offering a weekly bus service from Ayr To Townsville, direct to campus.
The service is ideal for weekly boarders from Year 7 to Year 12. The bus departs from the Queen Street McDonalds in Ayr each Monday at 7am. The return service will arrive at the McDonalds in Ayr each Friday at 5pm.
Limited spaces are available. For bookings or more information, please contact our Registrar, Mrs Jane Passmore at registrar@cathedral.qld.edu.au or call 07 4722 2000.
Register your expression of interest for this service via our Ayr Bus Online Form.
Students Eligible
The bus service is available for students from Year 3 to Year 12.
Younger students will only be permitted to travel if in the company of an older sibling student who has designated travel responsibility for them as determined by the Head of Junior School. Younger students being accompanied by an older student will be assessed and approved by the school on a case by case basis. The school will take into consideration the age and maturity of the older student, the distance the student has to travel between home and the bus stop and the localised traffic/road safety of the area. Families are encouraged to contact the School Office prior to any bookings being made to discuss your individual circumstances.

Parents and Friends Association
The Parents and Friends’ Association (P & F) is an active and vibrant friend-raising and fund-raising group within The Cathedral School and has been a vital part of our school community for many decades.
The P & F run a variety of functions throughout the year. Details of these events can be found in the School Calendars.
The P & F raise significant funds through their work and this money is invested back into the school in a wide range of areas including the following items purchased in 2020:
- Vital Signs Monitor & Stand for the Student Health Centre.
- Specialist Lighting for the performances in the Rock Centre.
At the end of 2021 the P & F also donated goods to Hope in a Suitcase to provide items for children entering foster care and also to the TUH to help combat rheumatic heart disease in young girls from remote indigenous communities.
SECOND-HAND UNIFORMS
The P & F will be selling second hand uniforms in the St Mary’s building in January. The P & F second hand uniform store will also be open on boarders’ travel day at the start of each term and also the first Tuesday of each month (during term time). Opening times can be found in the school calendar.
Donations of second hand uniforms are gratefully accepted and can be dropped off at main reception during office hours.
In June 2021 the school held its biennial Carnival (Fete). This is a major fund-raiser for the P & F and a wonderful community event. The next Carnival will be June 2023.

Tuckshop
The Tuckshop is open daily for both breaks.
The Tuckshop uses the MyTuckshop online ordering program, which is a cashless system. Modern technology makes paying for your child’s lunches easier than ever before. Gone are the days of hunting for exact change for that brown paper bag. View the Tuckshop Menu here.
Through the MyTuckshop web portal, parents can place tuckshop orders, top up the balance via credit card or direct deposit, view their child’s purchases, set spending limits, dietary or allergy alerts, ban items from sale and top up the balance on the student account.
All online orders for Junior School students need to be submitted prior to 8.30am for that day. Year 3 – 6 students will still be able to access the Tuckshop during first lunch break to purchase additional items, using their ID card instead of cash. ID cards will be distributed to Junior School students by their teachers.
Middle and Senior School students are also able to place their lunch orders online prior to 8.30am, or they may utilise the Tuckshop at break times, and swipe their ID card/library card for payment instead of using cash.
Outside School Hours Care
The Outside School Hours Care (OSHC) education program is developed and implemented in accordance with the My Time, Our Place – Framework for School Age Care. It ensures that students have opportunities to participate in leisure and play-based activities that are responsive to their needs, interests, and choices. School age children may do their homework in a supervised quiet area before joining the play-based activities.
Vacation Care Program
Our Vacation Care program offers art and craft activities, wet days, outdoor games, cooking, sewing activities, drama and various excursions. We also have visits from professionals such as vets, police officers, ambulance and fire officers and wildlife carers to name a few.
Parents are welcome to participate in all aspects of our program and attend any of the excursions with their child (if places are available on the bus). Parents who have a talent in a particular area are invited to share these skills with us at OSHC.
A full Vacation Care program is available at least two weeks before Vacation Care commences, to assist children/parents with organising items required for activities each day of the program. We encourage the children to be responsible for ensuring that they have their equipment ready and to be organised for their day.
Hours of Operation
Before School Care | 7am – 8.30am |
After School Care | 3pm – 6pm |
Vacation Care | 7am – 6pm |
