Year 10 Cathedral School Student Set to Take on National and International Endurance Sports Scene

At just 15 years old, Cathedral School student Nicholas Dixon-Grover is already leaving a mark across Australia’s endurance sports landscape, with a drive that shows no signs of slowing down. Competing at state and national levels in cross-country running, cycling, mountain biking, triathlon, and athletics, Nicholas is emerging as one of North Queensland’s most versatile and determined young athletes.
In 2025, Nicholas has already added several outstanding achievements to his name. He placed 3rd in the U16 division at the Queensland All Schools Athletics Cross Country Championships in Brisbane and claimed the title of North Queensland Open Men’s Cross Country Champion in Airlie Beach. He also took out 1st place in the Open Men’s 5km Sugar Rush Run in Ayr.
A formidable force on the bike as well, Nicholas is climbing the national ranks in mountain biking. At the GWM National Mountain Bike Short Course Championships at Mt Buller, VIC, he placed 13th in U17 after recovering from a crash that saw him unable to finish the longer Cross Country event. He followed up with strong performances in the Australian MTB Cross Country Series in Canberra, with a best result of 12th in Round 5, despite mechanical setbacks in Round 6.
Nicholas has also continued his dominance at home, winning the 2024 Townsville Road Cycling Club Championships (U17 Boys), and achieving back-to-back North Queensland MTB Champion titles in 2023 and 2024. At the 2024 Cape to Cape MTB Stage Race in WA, he and his teammate secured 3rd place overall in the Men’s Open Pairs, competing against much older and more experienced riders.
His running resume is equally impressive. A multiple-time state representative, Nicholas has made the Queensland State Triathlon Team in both 2023 and 2024, and has represented North Queensland in Athletics, Cross Country, and Triathlon since 2022. At the 2024 North Queensland All Schools Athletics Championships, he claimed first place in the 800m, 1500m, and 3000m, and at the Australian North Queensland Championships, he not only won all three events again but also set a digital track record for the 800m.
Nicholas’ ambitions for 2025 are nothing short of extraordinary. He is targeting Top 5 finishes at the Australian MTB XCO and XXC Nationals, as well as podiums at Australian Road Junior Cycling Championships and the Australian National Athletics Championships. He’s also aiming to win the iconic Paluma Push and Reef to Reef RRR MTB races in North Queensland this July, and has his sights set on making the Queensland Team for Road Cycling and Athletics.
With a schedule packed with elite events across three demanding disciplines, Nicholas trains with a focus and maturity well beyond his years. His passion, and discipline signal a bright future ahead.
The Cathedral School is proud to support Nicholas as he races toward his goals and represents our community on the national stage.
