Commonwealth Register of Institutions and Courses for Overseas Students (CRICOS)

Students from many different countries have chosen to study at The Cathedral School. International students are welcomed into the school community and are immersed in classes and boarding life with children from many different backgrounds and experiences.

The Cathedral School offers CRICOS Registered Courses specific to Primary, Middle, and Senior school students.

Queensland Certificate of Education (QCE)

The Queensland Certificate of Education (QCE) is Queensland’s senior secondary schooling qualification, internationally recognised and providing evidence of senior schooling achievements. To be awarded a QCE, students must accumulate 20 credits from various learning options, including QCAA subjects or courses, vocational education and training qualifications, and recognised studies. These credits must be earned at a set standard, in a set pattern, while also meeting literacy and numeracy requirements. Planning for the QCE typically begins in Year 10, when schools collaborate with students and their parents or carers to develop a Senior Education and Training (SET) plan or equivalent. This plan tailors the student’s learning to their abilities, interests, and ambitions, mapping out their pathway to achieving the QCE. The flexibility of the QCE allows students to choose from a wide range of subjects and courses that align with their interests, further study, and career goals. For more detailed information about the QCE, including eligibility criteria and planning resources, visit the Queensland Curriculum and Assessment Authority’s official page.

Vocational & Academic Pathways

At Cathedral, we are committed to guiding students through their educational journey, ensuring they are well-prepared for university, vocational education, or direct employment. In Years 11 and 12, students have the opportunity to tailor their studies to align with their future aspirations. Our comprehensive curriculum, expert career counselling, and a variety of academic and vocational subjects help students achieve their goals.

The Cathedral School has registered the following Vocational Education and Training (VET) in Schools courses on CRICOS. This provides our international students the option to study these courses as part of their Senior Secondary studies. Successful completion of a VET course will contribute towards students secondary qualification (Queensland Certificate of Education). In addition, often tertiary providers will assign VET courses with an ATAR. The school must be approved by a designated state authority and comply with the Education Services for Overseas Students (ESOS) Act and the National Code.

Students should be aware of the additional costs associated with each course. The Schools Pathways and Careers Manager advises and guides international students on selections subjects and VET courses.
