Through these lessons, we nurture a love of the performing arts, empower students to take creative risks, and support their personal and social development in a fun and inclusive environment.
Miss Paris Walsh is an actor and teaching artist who has worked and performed in the Townsville community for many years. She has a wealth of hands-on performance experience, having performed in several stage productions in Townsville, Melbourne, and even internationally at the Prague Fringe Festival.
Paris completed her teaching qualifications while working and performing for Townsville’s independent theatre company, TheatreiNQ. As a proud ensemble member of TheatreiNQ, she performs in multiple shows every year, including the annual Shakespeare Under the Stars.
Paris also works as a Teaching Artist for Brisbane’s Queensland Theatre, helping to deliver their programs, The Scene Project and North Queensland Residency Week, to regional Queensland.
Our small group speech & drama classes begin in Year 2 and offer students a supportive and creative environment to explore performance skills and build confidence.
Term 1 focuses on storytelling, where students collaborate to devise an original story. Their work is filmed and uploaded to their personal OneDrive accounts for sharing and reflection.
Terms 2 and 3 centre on speech and performance, as students prepare poems and short scenes for possible entry in the Eisteddfod, held at the end of Term 3.
Term 4 is dedicated to preparing performance pieces for the annual Drama Concert, giving students the opportunity to showcase their growth and talent on stage.
These classes are designed to extend students’ existing skills and develop areas of performance they may not regularly engage with in the classroom. With the benefit of one-on-one mentoring within the small group format, students receive personalised guidance that encourages them to grow as confident, expressive, and capable performers.
Medium classes are held after school on a Tuesday afternoon (Years 1–4 at 3:15pm to 4:15pm & Years 5–12 at 4:15pm to 5:15pm). These classes have a strong focus on collaborative learning with the aim of increasing confidence, whilst also allowing students to make friendships and connections with students of all ages.
Small Group and Solo students will showcase their learning at an annual Drama Concert in Term 4. They will also have the opportunity to compete in the Townsville Eisteddfod and at various school events.
