The Swimming Academy is based on campus at The Cathedral School’s heated outdoor pool. Coach Matt Talbot (Townsville Swimming Academy) has over 20 years of experience in the industry, catering to juniors at mini squad level through to adults, focussing on stroke correction, fitness, and competitive swimming.

Swimming Academy is available to all students from Prep to Year 12 who are looking to further their skills in the water. Basic swimming skills are required to participate in the academy. (Preps must meet requirements for Shark Pups squad.

REGISTRATIONS

Come Try Session:
Swimming lessons can commence at any time (subject to availability).

Season Registration:

Enrolment forms will be sent after assessment.

SEASON DATES

Start:
Term 1, Week 1.

End:
Term 4, Week 9. (There is an option to continue in lessons scheduled throughout December holidays).

AGE GROUP

Prep to Year 12

(Preps must meet requirements for Shark Pups squad).

COST

Lessons:
$9.50 to $15 per lesson plus GST – invoiced each term.

Inclusions:
• Pool entry and swimming lessons with a qualified swim coach.

Potential additional costs:
• Participation in a swimming squad: Cost per week reduces with number of participants.
• Competitive swimming – Townsville Tiger Sharks Swimming Club: Cost to join ranges from 30-day FREE trial membership, $103 for recreational swimmer to $186 for a competitive swimmer.

SCHEDULE

Training:
• Monday to Friday before and after school, and Saturdays.
• Schedule varies from summer to winter and school holiday periods. Check the current timetable at the time of enquiring.

Matt Talbot - Coach

Townsville Swimming Academy

Matt has been a part of the Townsville and District swimming community for thirty years. He swam competitively in Queensland Swimming and Masters Swimming Queensland. Matt has coached in various swim schools in mini squads through to Masters and worked with many experienced coaches in order to gain more knowledge and insight into this complex sport. Matt has taken teams to State Championship events and many regional meets where swimmers have met and exceeded their own expectations.

Matt has always placed the physical and emotional needs of the swimmer at the centre of his programs. Matt is an approachable and adaptable coach and will modify sessions according to individual goals. These goals are taken very seriously and every effort will be made to make them a reality.

Matt’s programs are highly technical in nature. One of the goals of every swimmer should be to achieve technical excellence. Matt has very high expectations of himself as a coach but is also able to ensure that swimmers are relaxed and having fun while also learning new skills.

Qualifications Include:

Bachelor of Education – Early Childhood Teaching
AUSTSWIM Teacher or Swimming and Water Safety
Swimming Australia Teacher of Competitive Strokes
ASCTA Bronze License
Masters Leve1 1 Club Coach
CPR and Senior First Aid
Blue Card holder
