The inaugural Northern Region Anglican Schools Music Festival will be hosted by The Cathedral School over the weekend of 27-29 January, 2023. Cathedral students will be joined by fellow Anglican schools, Trinity Anglican School (Cairns), Whitsunday Anglican School (Mackay), and All Souls St Gabriels (Charters Towers).
The festival will culminate with a collaborative concert on Sunday led by special guests, Professor Rob McWilliams as Ensemble Director – Concert Band, Heidi Newell as String Ensemble Director, and Katherine Menkins as Vocal Ensemble Director.
The North Queensland event is based on the biennial Brisbane Anglican Schools Music Festival which features over 40 schools around the South-East Queensland region. The project has been in development by The Cathedral School’s Principal Ian Gamack, Head of Music Kellie Rich, and the North Queensland Anglican school music leaders for several years, with Covid interrupting the initial launch in previous years.
The event provides an opportunity for students to collaborate with fellow musicians and teachers from other schools, and work with industry professionals including conductors, composers, and other professional music educators.
The concert will be held at The Cathedral School ‘Rock Centre’ at 11:30am on Sunday 29 January. Family and friends are welcome to attend the concert.
